Since forming the City of Thorold Pipe Band in 1986, members are committed to maintaining a high standard, not only musically but to the overall organization as a whole.
This attitude was instilled early by our founder Pipe Major James (Jimmy) Greig, a former member of three truly legendary organizations: The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment), the Edinburgh Police Pipes and Drums and the Clan Mac Farlane Pipe Band.
Having spent many years competing at the grade one level, Jimmy certainly knew how to build and maintain a first rate band. He also learned that this can prove to be a very empty endeavor when the most important element is missing. What is this magical ingredient?
This is a hobby for all of us, yet we take it very seriously. We take pride in putting out the best possible product we can. Annually our repertoire is reviewed and changes proposed, and we keep the music challenging enough, but not out of reach.
I feel that this is the most important tool in maintaining the strength of the band. The band executives along with all members have a say in our direction of the band.
All I ask is that members be “good bands people”.
